Horizont 2025/4: Változások a nyugat-balkáni migrációs útvonalon

In March 2025, Migration Research Institute conducted field research on the Hungarian side of the Hungary-Serbia border to gather information on the latest trends in irregular migration. Findings show that smuggling networks are flexible, they adapt to changes, switch to new routes and methods such as drone surveillance to circumvent obstacles with tricks. The number of illegal entries into Hungary has decreased from the end of 2023 due to the tightened policies of the Serbian authorities, but the impact of migration on local communities remains significant. It generates security, economic and social challenges that put pressure on both law enforcement agencies and those living near the border. The research provides a comprehensive picture of recent migration trends, supported by quantitative and qualitative analysis.
