Szabolcs Janik, deputy director of the Migration Research Institute, told Kossuth Radio that the European Union must soon formulate its attitude towards the new Taliban leadership in Afghanistan. If the EU wants to help the Afghans and avoid a repeat of the 2015 migration crisis, it must seek cooperation and continue to provide financial support. The money is the EU’s only means of exerting pressure on the Taliban, and it is also limited: if it imposes too many conditions, the Taliban will simply ask for aid from China, Pakistan, or possibly Russia.
