Fatal accidents, assassinations, terrorism – the problem is EU-level

In 2015, unprecedented numbers of people arrived in Europe, mainly via Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea. The frontline countries set up migrant camps, some of them moved people on, while Hungary protected its borders with barbed wire fences. At EU level, stricter measures failed to materialize. We examine how the European Union’s migration policy developed.
