Illegal and mass immigration is a major challenge on both sides of the Atlantic. 2022 brought a sad record for Europe: in one year, the number of illegal border crossings increased by 64% to more than 330,000, the highest since 2016. In the same fiscal year, the US Border Patrol arrested 2 206 436 people who crossed the US southern border illegally.
In a roundtable discussion organised by the Migration Research Institute, experts from the United States, France and Hungary will analyse—among other things—the causes and motivations behind irregular and mass migration; how the role of border protection and law enforcement agencies has changed; and the impact of immigration on the local communities that receive them.
