Analysis 2025/10: Changing Governments, Unchanging Struggles: Poland vs. the European Commission

The conflict between Poland and the European Commission continues unabated despite a change of government in Warsaw. Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s new measures on migration – including the suspension of asylum applications and the strengthening of border protection – have once again raised tensions with Brussels. The Polish government justifies its tough policy with the war in Ukraine and migratory pressure from Belarus, while the EU is demanding compliance with EU law. Although Tusk represents a more moderate style in politics, Warsaw and Brussels still cannot find common ground on migration.
